Laura Ingalls Wilder:The Story Behind the Stories with Judy Green

Take a step back in time to re-visit the tales from the beloved series of  pioneer novels written by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  For the many readers who have wondered, "What happened next?", discover the stories behind the stories of the  "Little House" books.   
Judy dresses in period costume, and brings the stories to life with vivid storytelling, photographs and pioneer artifacts taken right from the pages of the books.
This one hour program is suitable for classrooms, libraries, historical societies, Girl Scouts or mother- daughter events.

About Judy

    Judy attended Bowling Green State University, and graduated from Cleveland State Univeristy with a degree in English Education.  She is retired from 21 years in the children's dept of the Medina County District Library. 
     As a child, Judy read the books and was left with a sense of wonder, that led to a love of learning about the  real  people behind the book characters, and visits to all the homesites and museums dedicated to Laura Ingalls Wilder.   This programming is in its 22nd year.

Options for Programming

There are several types of programming Judy can offer.  Programming can be adapted for adults as well as children. 
1.  Basic Program
This one hour program is designed for use by the elementary classroom, to supplement a unit on the books of Laura Ingalls WIlder, or pioneer history.  
For Libraries, it can be presented to celebrate Mrs. Wilder's contribution to children's literature. 
2.  Christmas in the Little House
    This seasonal program  focuses on the Christmas stories in the books and includes a craft.
3.  A Laura Ingalls Wilder Birthday Celebration.
          Laura's birthday is February 7th, and this program includes a craft, activity, and a treat of Laura's favorite  gingerbread
4.  What in the world is that???
     Many of the artifacts mentioned in the little house books are a puzzlement to modern children.  A display of the artifacts mentioned in the books illustrates just how different life really was for pioneers  in the 19th century. This program includes time for looking, asking and touching.   
5.  Farmer Boy Fun
           Laura's husband, Almanzo Wilder, was the model for the main character in her book Farmer Boy.  This program  focuses on Almanzo's life and family activities.  SInce so much of his story revolves around food, a treat is supplied. 
6.  A walk in Laura's Footsteps
    A pictoral travelogue takes you to the homesites Laura and her family lived, as well as a few locations she never mentioned.  This journey takes you from Laura's birthplace in  Wisconsin, to Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, and Missouri.
